WAYS TO GET INVOLVED.
Family engagement is ingrained into our BMPV history. In 2015, parents formalized our organization into a 501(c)3 and we have grown and earned trust in our community from teachers and families.

Volunteer Clearance Process
Per DCPS policy, all parents/guardians and family members who wish to participate in a volunteer opportunity are required to complete the DCPS volunteer requirements. More information about this process is listed below.
In the Classroom & At Events
Bruce-Monroe encourages parent involvement in the classroom and on field trips. Talk to your child's teacher about ways to participate. To find out more about school events, come to our PTU meetings on the first Friday of the month at 8:30 in the parents center.
Put your talents to use on the PTU Board
Each year the PTU elects a new board at our May meeting. Positions are open to all family members and staff.
DCPS Clearance Process
The goal of this document is to outline and clarify the DCPS volunteering policy and its application at our school. We strongly encourage all parents, guardians, and family members to look for ways to engage in your child’s educational experience.
Per DCPS policy, all parents/guardians and family members who wish to participate in a volunteer opportunity are required to complete the DCPS volunteer requirements as outlined below. If you are a Federal Employee there is a simpler process, please email us if this is the case <bmpv.ptu@gmail.com>.
A volunteer opportunity is defined as participating in a school sponsored event on a singular day and can take place here at BMPV, as a chaperone on a field trip, or at a school sponsored event at another location. This does not include attending BMPV events such as assemblies, family/back to school nights, or other events open to our community, but would include volunteering to help staff them. All volunteer opportunities must be approved by BMPV administration, and will be tracked over the course of the year.
01
Complete the online DCPS Volunteer Fingerprinting Application.
Completing this application allows you to choose Bruce-Monroe Elementary at Park View as the school you want to volunteer at. You have to do this or they will not fingerprint you. If you cannot complete this on your own computer or phone, there are computers available on the 10th floor at DCPS central office where you can complete the process (this is the same place you have to go to get fingerprinted). Please also feel free to drop by or schedule a time with Mr. Wiley to complete the application at his office, this will take 5-10 minutes to complete. You can also coordinate a time to complete the application with a PTU member in the Parents’ Center, just stop by the Parents’ Center on a Friday morning or email <bmpv.ptu@gmail.com>.
02
Show your recent negative TB test and get fingerprinted at DCPS central office
After completing the online application above, potential volunteers must show proof of a negative TB test taken within the last 12 months or chest x-ray taken within the last 5 years, a state issued photo ID, and have a confirmed DC public school placement (you did this when you completed the online Fingerprinting application). You will also need to know your social security number, if you don’t have one, DCPS suggests using 999-99-9999. Take all of this information to DCPS Central Office, specifically the 10th floor at 1200 First Street, NE. Operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am to 5pm, and Fridays from 8am to 3pm.
03
Submit DCPS volunteer clearance letter to Mr. Wiley <taylor.wiley@dc.gov>. (Letter generally takes 1-2 weeks from date of fingerprinting to arrive via email)

Your volunteer clearance will be valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Note that if you are renewing an expired clearance, a new TB test is not required for returning volunteers, you will only need to go through the fingerprint process again.
